My favorite magazine

A few years ago a dear friend gave me a subscription to "Arizona Highways" magazine as a birthday gift. Little did she realize the tremendous impact that magazine would have on my life to this day. "Arizona Highways" magazine is a pictorial masterpiece of all the natural splendors the Grand Canyon state has to offer. It is noted for its prize-winning photography of stunning mountain, desert, and canyon views. But it's also a tribute to the history and people of the Arizona territory. Just like the rugged settlers of old, every issue has an interesting story to narrate. How did the rustic village of Pinetop get its name? What really happened in Tombstone at the OK corral? Was Geronimo really chief of the Apaches? What are the best hiking trails in Tucson? How do you get to the Kartchner Caverns? There are many intriguing stories of the Old West and its colorful heroes, along with tales of hardship and heartbreak along the pioneer trail. But if you never read a word of the articles, the magazine is still worth way more than its cover or subscription price. Sometimes I just like to browse the stunning photography of the Grand Canyon, the Mogollon Rim, Sabino Canyon, Organ Pipe National Monument, the caves of the Anasazi, the ghost town areas around Prescott. When I first got the gift subscription to this magazine I wasn't even sure I'd read it. But read it I did. Then, some time later, I took my first trip to Arizona, by way of Tucson. I was enthralled by the beauty of the area and it changed my life. That was ten years ago. Since then I have traveled to Arizona nineteen more times. It became a place of destiny for me. I now own a vacation condo in the Catalina Foothills of Tucson where I will retire some day. And this interesting life journey is all to the credit of my personal travels through "Arizona Highways".
